review Polaroid suncover

Polaroid Suncover clip-on sunglasses
I used to have a kind of love-hate relationship with sunglasses. As a spectacle wearer, I had access to clips that I could put on the frame. I didn't particularly like them, but I had to when doing water sports, with all the glare from the water.
About the spectacle frame
This changed when I came across someone wearing sunglasses that went over his spectacle frame. It turned out to be a Polaroid Suncover. I quickly found one at a local optician and a whole new world opened up for me. For the first time, I understood why people like to wear sunglasses. The Suncover really protected my eyes from all sides, including the sides, and at the same time gave a beautiful and calm 'image'.

Rest for the eyes
In the meantime, I have tried out various models from Polaroid and FitOfar. The Polaroids are more expensive, but also clearly better. With the FitOfar clip-on sunglasses, I mainly had the feeling of looking through a dark glass. But the Polaroids really give my eyes some rest and a beautiful image. You pay more for them, but you clearly get more quality in return. In addition to Polaroid and FitOfar, there are other brands that supply clip-on sunglasses. The Polaroids are clearly the most expensive. I can't say anything from experience about those other brands, but given the price, they will probably match the FitOfars in terms of quality.

Also for water sports
For water sports I use an older model that completely protects my eyes and has an elastic band at the back. This model fits easily over my sports glasses, but not over my daily frame, which is larger. A comparable current model is the P8901. By the way, I advise against constantly loosening the elastic band. This makes the connection looser. For daily use I have the model 9007, which is feather-light: 22 grams.

Brown or black (grey) lenses
Sunglasses often come with brown or black (grey) lenses. I prefer brown lenses. These give me the most pleasant image, especially in nature.

Storage box versus softbag
My oldest Suncovers came with a handy storage box. The new ones come with a much too big and awkward storage box, but then again have a very nice microfiber softbag with which you can also clean the glasses.

Polarizing
The advantage of the polarizing lenses of Polaroid glasses is that it removes a lot of annoying glare. Using sunglasses with polarizing lenses can also cause problems when used together with a smartphone. If I use my smartphone in the ‘portrait mode’ then it is not a problem. But as soon as I turn my smartphone a quarter turn to take a photo in the ‘landscape mode’, the image becomes darker. Indoors this is still okay, but in bright daylight the image sometimes disappears completely. At first I thought there was a problem with my smartphone, but taking off my Suncover solved the problem.

Availability
A problem with the Polaroid Suncovers is the availability. I have contacted a supplier about this. The supply has indeed become smaller and for the models that are available, there is a shortage, so that some models are already sold out before the summer.
